Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040 Series) was announced on March 23, 2023, at the same time as Framework Laptop 13 (13th Gen Intel Core) during the Framework Next Level event. 1 Batch 1 preorders began shipping October 6, 2023. 2 Updated configurations with a new display option and 2nd gen webcam module are expected to begin shipping in August 2024. 3

Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040) Series has two USB 4 ports and 2 USB 3.2 ports. All 4 ports support charging while 3 of the 4 ports support display output. The two USB 4 ports result in high power consumption when used with the USB-A expansion card. 7
AMD 7040 Series comes with the AMD RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E card 4.
Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040) Series comes with a 55 Wh battery on Ryzen 5 models and a new 61 Wh battery on Ryzen 7 models 1. In May 2024 Framework added Ryzen 5 configurations that also use the 61 Wh battery that are expected to ship in August 2024 3 8.
Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040) Series originally came with a 2.2K matte display 1. In May 2024 Framework added configurations with a 2.8K 120 Hz matte display that are expected to ship in August 2024 3.
Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040) Series originally came with the 1st gen webcam module. In May 2024 Framework added configurations with a 2nd gen webcam module with better low-light performance that are expected to ship in August 2024 3.
Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040) Series supports DDR5 SO-DIMMs at DDR5-5600 speed with up to 32 GB each for a total of up to 64 GB. XMP speeds are not supported. DDR5-5600 SO-DIMMs with 24 GB or 48 GB each seem to work but are not officially supported. ECC modules work without ECC functionality but are not fully validated. 9

Framework sent AMD 7040 Series review units to media outlets 11 including JustJosh 12, Daniel Cooper from Engadget 13 and Andrew Freedman from Tom’s Hardware. 14
On release Framework Laptop 13 (AMD 7040) Series experienced battery cutoff on certain chargers as reported by community members 15 16. This issue was fixed with BIOS 3.05 17.
