The Dual M.2 Expansion Bay is an Expansion Bay Module that can connect up to two additional M.2 SSDs to Framework Laptop 16.1 The module is a drop-in upgrade for the Expansion Bay Shell, replacing the fan controller board that comes pre-installed.2 It is sold standalone or as a bundle with any combination of the Expansion Bay Shell, Graphics Module Interposer, and two SSDs.1 3
YouTuber and Framework investor Linus Sebastian leaked the product in a June 2024 video on the Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel.4 Framework launched the product on Dec. 16, 2024, making it available for purchase the same day.5
The Dual M.2 Expansion Bay is compatible with Framework Laptop 16. It requires BIOS 3.05 or higher and a Graphics Module Interposer (not included) to function. It supports a maximum of two SSDs ranging in size from 2230-2280.1
